You have a body.

A body with its own needs, wants, histories, lineages. A body with its own knowing.

For some of us, it takes a long time to understand what listening from a body actually means.

In my case, it took a diagnosis, deep study, and entirely new approaches to begin to live well in the body I have. To reclaim a more robust, inclusive, and creative understanding of health.

Years on, I’ve created a practice devoted to helping others listen from their bodies.‍ ‍

My formal studies include a masters in arts in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and training in documentary writing and radio at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.

I’ve worked for the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and spent nearly a decade as the director of Generation PRX, a national youth radio network for the Public Radio Exchange.

Since 2013 I’ve maintained a private somatics practice informed by certifications in neuromuscular massage therapy and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy as well as trainings in anatomy, Zero Balancing, and birth attachment.

But my most rigorous learning comes from living with chronic illness for over two decades.

This alchemy of teaching, storytelling, body work, and lived experience help weave a broad web of support for the people I work with.

I’m passionate advocate for a more expanisve notion of health, one that includes creativity and the wisdom of felt sense.

My book, Write Yourself Home, is a creative guide to living well in the body you have through embodied writing and gentle movement.

Individual and group embodied writing sessions help you discover language that rings with a truth you can feel, opening new pathways to larger health, including greater self-trust, fortified voice, and a willingness to include the whole.

I’ve been a featured guest on Dan Harris’s 10% Happier podcast and my writing has been published in Decor Maine, Cranial Wave, and the Huffington Post.

Outside of my practice, I’m an avid lover of gardens, playing music, watching fireflies, gathering with friends and family, good jokes, and adventures great and small.

Areas of Study

I received my B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1999, attended the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in 2002 and received my Masters in Education – specializing in arts and storytelling – from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2006.

I began my study of craniosacral therapy in 2012 via trainings with both the Upledger Institute and Courageous Heart Therapies (where I discovered the richness of the Biodynamic approach). In 2018, after a two and a half year training with Dr. Kate Klemer in Northampton, Massachusetts, I received certification in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. I am also a student of Zero Balancing and graduated from the Namaste Institute of Massage in Portland, Maine in June of 2013. I apprenticed with Integrated Awareness in 2008 and am a Reiki Level 2 practitioner.
